Out of 872 dogs suspected for cardio-pulmonary disorders, 228 dogs were diagnosed for various cardiac abnormalities, of which 120 (52.63%) were confirmed as DCM, with a prevalence rate of 26%. Fifty (41 male and 09 female) medium to large breed dogs weighing 20-32 kg, aged between 08-14 years selected for detailed analysis were equally allotted to two groups for therapeutic trial with different treatment regimes. Elevated levels of Creatine Kinase MB and Lactate Dehydrogenase were the significant biochemical abnormalities. A significantly (P<0.05) increased LVEsD, LVEdD and EPSS with decreased IVSsD, IVSdD, LVPWs, LVPWd were associated with the left ventricular dimensions. Though alleviation of signs started from 3-5 days among both the groups, complete clinical recovery was noticed after 25 - 35 days in enalapril treated group and by day 50 in losartan potassium treated group.
